blueberry bushes
Blueberry bushes

My tree took a bit of a battering when first purchased from gardening centre. It got knocked over a few times while still in the pont! This explains the brown (bruised) leaves and I assumed, once planted, that it was flowering much also as a result of the stress. However, it’s now being eaten alive by insects / pests/ etc. The leaves have all been munched up and I’ve noticed that the tree is growing taller but not really gowing to the sides.
Then, I noticed today that pests have moved on to my blueberry bushes which are not near the tree… the leaves are mostly 1/2 eaten…
I’m very reluctant to use standard pesticides and I even bought some ladybirds and a little wooden house + food for them. I was the laughing stock of friends and relatives, even more so when then the ladybirds just vanished!
Any suggestions, please?

Blueberry recipe please?

September 2nd, 2010

What is the best thing to make out of blueberry? An eggfree recipe please..

Thank you.

one year old plants have not grown this year. only greened up and put on leaves.

I’ve got a large, healthy blueberry bush until now it seems. I’ve got these gray things here and there on the bush. They look like seed pods or something…..sort of like an overgrown kidney bean but gray. Some of them have little holes in them. I can’t tell if they are surrounding a blueberry or not. I first noticed them last year but there were only a few and I ignored. This year there are substantially more. I’m concerned but I can’t seem to find a match to what these things are when I search around the internet. Any thoughts?

I have a blueberry pie recipe, and if i just replaced the blueberries with raspberries, would it work? If not, could send me a recipe for raspberry pie, preferably open-faced?
here’s the recipe

Pate Brisee (Short Crust Pastry):

2 1/2 cups (350 grams) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoon (30 grams) granulated white sugar

1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, chilled, and cut into 1 inch (2.54 cm) pieces

1/4 to 1/2 cup (60 – 120 ml) ice water

Blueberry Filling:

4 cups (570 grams) fresh blueberries

1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated white sugar

2 tablespoons (20 grams) cornstarch (corn flour)

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon lemon zest

Egg Wash:

1 large egg yolk

1 tablespoon cream

The house I bought two years ago has around 24 blueberry bushes on the property. The lady’s great grandfather or something like that planted them a thousand years ago. No pressure.

These blueberries are huge and awesome. I want to keep these bushes going. How do I cultivate/care for them? I haven’t done anything and I’m coming up on 3 years in the home. So far so good but if there’s something I’m supposed to be doing I’d like to know before I kill them.
I’ve already ruined one vegetable garden and two flower gardens. The other flower gardens are holding their own but don’t hold a candle to what she ever did with them. What I’m saying is I’m not gifted. I don’t want to blow it with these blueberries.

I am going to buy some blueberry bushes sometime in the near future. I am wondering what type of blueberry variety is everyones favorite. My father has a blueberry bush that produces very good blueberrys, but he does not know what type it is. I am interested in a fairly sweet berry. Any suggestions?

My family and I went blueberry picking this morning and I was wondering what are some yummy blueberry recipes there are?
Please give the full recipe, like ingredients, and measurements…or put a link. Thanks(:
(we already know about blueberry pie…but we don’t have a recipe!):D

Could not resist the triple pack of 3 different low chill varieties of blueberry plants at Costco. They are Emerald, Jewel, and Millennium. Our soil is sandy and alkali, so I’d like to keep them in pots and they apparently stay small enough. But I’m not sure what kind of soil to use. Peat moss is recommended, but shouldn’t it be mixed with potting soil and, if, so, what kind?.

Or can you plant a raspberry bush in place of a 2nd blueberry bush. I’m growing my first blueberry bush and just realized that I need a 2nd bush to pollinate. Just curious if is HAS to be a blueberry or can be another “similar” berry.
